The South Dakota Services for the Deaf (SDSD) is seeking applicants for a pediatric audiologist. SDSD is seeking a dynamic and self-directed individual who enjoys variety in the work day, is passionate about working with children, wants to be part of providing rural hearing healthcare and outreach services, and is excited about fulfilling child find functions.
This is a full-time, 12-month, non-faculty exempt position with full benefits including paid time off, health insurance, state retirement, and more.
Job Highlights:
Provide best-practice care in the screening, evaluation, educational and (re)habilitative audiologic services for South Dakota children from birth to 21 years of age. Care provided in a variety of settings, including a new, state-of-the-art SDSD Mobile Hearing Lab, SDSD clinics, schools, and a variety of other settings. Travel is required for a majority of services.
Provide consultation, training, and support services to other service related providers.
Work with staff, families, and outside agencies in advocating best practices for children with hearing loss in South Dakota.
Credentials/Certification/Registration:
Doctorate degree in Audiology.
South Dakota Audiology License; or eligible for SD state licensure.
Experience working with children.
American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certification (CCC-A) – preferred for future student supervision.
The position location may be negotiable at time of hire but may require more travel to cover the state with the mobile lab.
Incumbent will be required to undergo a background investigation before employment begins. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment.

Department Description and Cultural Expectations:
The South Dakota Services for the Deaf (SDSD) was established in 1880 to serve children identified deaf or hard of hearing. Since that time, SDSD has worked to provide quality educational support services for children identified deaf or hard of hearing (birth through high school graduation or until age 22) and their families. The school’s mission includes consultation with families and educational teams statewide, and comprehensive student evaluations, including audiology services and hearing screenings. These services are being provided at the SDSD Sioux Falls and Rapid City Clinics, and through our statewide traveling Mobile Lab. SDSD serves as a resource for families and local schools by providing a specialist in hearing loss as a member of the educational team.
